Reminder: Perfection is a Construct of the Mind

This is something that I almost constantly have to remind myself of.
Take this post for example: When one begins a new blog, and has multiple “really good” ideas for it, one really wants that first post to be MAGNIFICENT! AWESOME! GLORIOUS! and PERFECT!
It doesn’t exist. So why put all that pressure on yourself, or your art, or anything you do in life. Sometimes you just sort of luck into “perfect” on any given day at any given moment. But again, its subjective. You may think it’s perfect, but anyone else may not think/feel that way about it.
So, in order to just get the first post out of the way (who likes a blank page anyway?? nobody reads a blank page!), here is my first post, such as it is.

Some goals I have for this blog:
I would love to write a haiku or tanka a day, with photos of whatever inspired it when possible. At first I will settle for at least a poem every other day as I get my writing chops back in form. I like to wander around with a camera anyway.
I like food, so there will be food pics, or pics of testing recipes.

A bit about me since I haven’t figured out how to add pages to this Theme:
I live in a smallish town, in a smallish house, with a dog and 6 cats – all rescues of one sort or another.
I love to read and watch movies. And cook.
One day, the tree in the backyard will pass from this earth and I will build a Japanese garden.
Conversely, I want to terrace the hill in my front yard and make a vegetable garden…with wildflowers as well.
I am attempting to learn Japanese and one day I will visit Japan.
I sew when I can, and will be entering into quilt making very soon.
I am tortured by home remodeling, DIY-style.
I am a yogini, student of Zen, and will be learning Tai-Chi very soon.
I am partially Asian, and am very inspired by the arts of Japan specifically.

I welcome questions and comments (but they will be moderated).

Feel free to ruminate on this photo that WordPress graciously has in Zemanta (and I actually wouldn’t mind something like this in my backyard, it would have to be on a much smaller scale though!):
