a week of haiku

1

gray yellow and white

too much hard work into this

warm cozy kitchen

2.

canary yellow

far too bright for this small room

too much like the sun

3.

man constantly yells

at his children? at his dog?

hateful angry voice

4.

birds chirp, sirens blare,

racing down the interstate

busy day for them

5.

cool breeze, tree frogs chirp

quiet evening in the ‘burbs

still no sleep for me

6.

moon bright white and clouds

obscure its face in odd ways

owl hoots in distance

7.

dog barks in distance

car whizzes down street, too fast

bird sings its warning

a Two-fer for Shadow

fur, soft to the touch

toothless, tongue washes my hand

he adopted me

Image
My feet or hands getting bathed is a daily routine in our house. And a cat only bathes who he feels is his “family”.

he washes my toes

scratchy cat tongue tickles me

purrs his happiness

This is Shadow and he’s the other cat I snatched off my porch after showing up (a couple of times) with injuries to his legs. We became friends on the front porch and, unlike the other cats in the neighborhood, this guy liked to be petted and washed and loved up my feet from our third meeting. He’s a beaten up tom-cat, torn nostril, and scratched up ears. And he has none of his front teeth. At. All. And he’s about to lose 2 more of his molars since his teeth are just bad. While he wasn’t in near the same state as Snuffy, he was such a nice cat and people friendly that I couldn’t bear to leave him to the elements. He’s been with me now for a year. It’s almost like I got a playmate for my then only male in the house, Fozzie. (And I’m pretty sure he’s Snuffy’s dad.)
